Buying an electric car has always meant lower running and usage costs compared to petrol and diesel cars, so the cost of a full tank is now more than ever before also due to the record inflationthat has affected not only fuels, but also electricity.
This makes using each type of car more expensive on average, with the cost of refuelling petrol and diesel going up, along with the cost of filling up at public charging stations. So let’s see what the real increases are, despite the government’s attempts to reduce bills more and more.
In particular, the cost of public recharging is increasing even though it follows a non-linear trend compared to the price of traditional fuels.
How fuel expenditure has increased
Speaking of the cost of filling up, the average price of petrol rose to EUR 2,034 per litre in June 2022, compared to the cost of diesel at EUR 1972.46 per litre, but this is not the end of the story and prices are set to rise further. In the past, in June 2021, the average price of petrol at the pump in Italy was EUR 1,613, 63 per litre. As far as diesel is concerned, on the other hand, last year one had to account for 1,473.40 euro per litre. It only took 12 months to see the price of fuel increase by 40 cents despite the excise cut, and LPG also rose from 0.665 to 0.829 euro per litre.
How the cost of domestic energy supplies has risen
Similarly, the cost of electricity for domestic supplies has risen, an element that has to be taken into account by those who recharge their electric car with a domestic wallbox such as the one proposed by DazeTechnology. The evolution of household electricity prices is dramatic.
In its latest bulletin, published at the end of June and valid for the third quarter of 2022, ARERA (the Italian Energy Authority) pointed out that the ‘typical household’ (annual consumption of 2,700 kWh with a committed power of 3 kW) will spend EUR 1,071 per year on electricity bills, with a price increase of +91% compared to the period October 2020 – September 2021.
Charging electric cars costs more
The general increase in the cost of electricity has also led to increased expenditure on charging electric cars, especially if you rely on public charging stations, although increases depend on the individual provider and have to be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Among the major companies in the zero-emission mobility sector, for example, Enel X was among the first to raise prices. The company raised the cost of charging from 0.45 to 0.58 €/kWh (for AC charging up to 22 kW). Smaller increases for fast charging, which now costs up to 0.79 €/kWh. Flat rates, for the time being, have not been updated.
Ionity’s prices have remained stable over the past few months, offering recharging at €0.35/kWh with the €17.99/month subscription. From the beginning of 2022, however, Be Charge it has increased prices starting now from 0.45 € / K K
As mentioned, recharging an electric car at the public charging station involves a cost trend that is not homogeneous and depends on company strategies and investments made by different operators. For this you should focus more on home charging relying on specialized companies such as Dazetechnology.
