DAFI (Directive 2014/94/EU)
DAFI (Directive 2014/94/EU)
The DAFI, acronym for Directive 2014/94/EU, is a European regulation implemented in Italy with Legislative Decree 257/2016 that aims to promote the use of alternative fuels for mobility, to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and the environmental impact of the transport sector.
The regulation identifies electricity, natural gas (LNG and CNG), and hydrogen as strategic alternatives, promoting their dissemination through the installation of an adequate refueling network and the definition of national strategic frameworks. In addition to setting minimum requirements for charging and refueling infrastructures, the DAFI requires member states to provide clear information about the location of distribution points, as well as to ensure non-discriminatory access for users.
This directive plays a key role in the energy transition, as it encourages the adoption of vehicles powered by alternative sources, supports technological innovation, and allows flexibility for individual countries in defining their strategies, while maintaining a neutral approach to the various available solutions.
